Middle Settlement Lean-to: Feb 16 - 17, 2008

It's about 10:30 in the morning. The old roof is already gone. It's hovering right around -8 degrees.

The two campers that had camped in the lean-to the previous night were rather shell-shocked by the whole affair. They were promised a new roof before nightfall. They got it.

Didn't seem to cause too much in the way of emotional scarring, though. One of them keeps coming back for more punishment with the group. The other left the state permanently.

Andys Creek Lean-to: Jan 25, 2008

Andys Creek lean-to was one board short of a complete floor (yeah, I know people like that, too) when it was rescued. Pete organized a bushwack from Russian Lake (where we were staying that weekend) over to Andys Creek, to drag in that last floor board. Here's the ring leader hammering in the board he just pulked in "over the river and through the woods."

The old roof shingles are off. The temporary tarp is on. Obviously it's time for some lunch!

Pete and his fancy roofing shoes have finished stripping the old shingles. Now the rest of those slackers can pick up the pieces and twine them together into bundles of more manageable size to carry out.

Once again, 10 lbs of a crap in a 5 lb bag... This scene repeats itself way too often with this crew.

Split the lean-to and replaced 3 west facing logs. Also added a proper foundation to all the corners.

A big thanks to Jim and John for the providing, AND the downright awesome grill work on, the chicken and "the sweetest corn in Lewis county."

Lean2Rescue featured in the Post-Standard

David Figura wrote an article about Lean2Rescue in today's Syracuse Post Standard. Here's Figura's blog post about it, with Paul's rescue log pasted in at the bottom.

Pick up a copy of the Post-Standard if you see it. Here's the full text of the article, sans pictures.

Roofing Shoes Invented!

During the roof shingle stripping weekend at the Russian Lake leanto, Pete kept slipping down the snowy, icy roof. A little Lean2Rescue ingenuity is all it took... Pete, you ought to get a patent on these babies!
